Launching Super Marketers, my new podcast
Conversations with superstar marketers on their careers, journeys, and work
At last. So this is the announcement I’ve been teasing for a while, folks.
Let me tell you how it came about.
This year, as I produced and hosted Atomic Conversations for Atomicwork, I started to get the hang of podcasting, even enjoy it. As I worked on the podcast, I started thinking deeply about an idea I’ve had for a while: How marketers think about their careers.
I’ve always been enthralled by how professionals think about and map their careers, how they learn, unlearn, make mistakes, hit refresh, and move ahead. This is fascinating to me also because I’m thinking about it too. It’s a question I ask my peers often, of how we think about what we do, where we want to go, and how we want to get there.
That’s what Super Marketers is. I’m going to talk to some of the best marketers in the country about how they came to be marketers, what drives them, and how they think about their best work. Basically, informal, free-ranging, and fun conversations.
And because I had to launch on a high note, my first guest is Lavanya Mohan, director of content and social media at Acko, and someone I’ve known for a long time.
Lavanya’s career is fascinating. She is a CA, apart from being a full time marketing professional. Plus she writes a finance column in The Morning Context and a great blog called PennMoney.
We cover a lot of ground in this conversation: Writing, finance, campaigns, social media, and so on.
What I loved about our discussion:
The connection between marketing and telling stories
Transitioning from finance to B2B marketing and then to B2C marketing
Favourite campaigns to work on
What Lavanya’s favourite ads were growing up
She also referenced an old essay of mine, What is the think only you can do, as something that helped her think about her career. Do read it.
There you go then, I want to do this twice every month, time and work allowing. So wish me luck, and start listening. :)
Here’s the first episode on Spotify:
Here it is on Apple Podcasts:
It should also be available on all podcast platforms by now. So go get it and subscribe! I hope you enjoy it.
And yes, any and all kind of feedback welcome! If you have any questions you want me to add, tell me. Any people you think I should bring on, let me know.
You know where to find me, on LinkedIn, or on Twitter.
Before, I let you go this week, my friend Roshan Cariappa, Head of Marketing at Vymo, had me on his podcast, The Startup Operator.
Here’s a snippet from the episode on YouTube. Of course I had to wear my Atomicwork shirt, I’m a marketer after all. :)
And here’s the whole episode on Spotify, all 80+ minutes of it, well suited for a good, long walk. Do listen!
And yes, if you haven’t subscribed yet, why? Because you will get both the newsletter and alerts about new episodes of Super Marketers right here. It’s a great deal, if you ask me. :)
Before I let you folks go and listen to the podcasts, I want to say thanks to our sponsor SocialPilot, especially because they are also sponsoring Super Marketers.
